Airspan Networks Successfully Deploys Performance Technologies' SEGway(TM) Compact-STP in PROTEL Mexico VoIP Network

15 March 2006

Performance Technologies (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading developer of communication platforms and systems, today announced that Airspan Networks has successfully deployed the company's SEGway(TM) 6300 Compact-STP in the PROTEL Mexico VoIP network, one of the world's largest VoIP systems.

PROTEL Mexico offers multi-service data and voice solutions to enterprise customers and carriers throughout Mexico, including: VoIP, IP Centrex services and local and long distance voice services. An integral part of the carrier's VoIP network is the Airspan AS.TONE VoIP system, a carrier class, turnkey solution designed to provide PROTEL Mexico with a cost-effective, high- performance system for IP telephony.

"PROTEL Mexico is one of our most valuable customers, so we wanted to implement an STP solution that would separate their SS7 network from a larger carrier's network and meet their high expectations," said Alex Paz, vice president of AS.TONE business development for Airspan Networks. "We selected Performance Technologies' SEGway 6300 because it is a proven, cost-effective STP solution that would easily integrate into PROTEL Mexico's large VoIP system. The system was implemented in less than a week and exceeded expectations at PROTEL Mexico."

Performance Technologies' SEGway 6300 Compact-STP is a carrier-grade, redundant system designed to bridge SS7 networks by supporting both IP-based and circuit-switched SS7 signaling. The 6300 can scale up to 96 SS7 links and 32 M2PA links. It is an ideal solution for carriers looking to minimize leasing costs and port charges without a significant capital investment.

The Compact-STP supports a full range of hardware configurations and options for seamless scalability. Software options like M3UA/SUA support allow softswitch connectivity and Global Title Translation (GTT) allow carriers to offer toll-free calling, local number portability and other revenue-generating services.

"Airspan came to us looking for an STP that would reduce leasing costs by separating the PROTEL Mexico SS7 network from that of a larger carrier," said Don Sylvester, vice president of global signaling sales for Performance Technologies. "Our SEGway 6300 not only accomplished this, but was completely implemented in a week, seamlessly integrating into PROTEL Mexico's extensive VoIP network. We look forward to continuing to work with Airspan to accomplish similar results for other carriers."
