Bandwidth.com Releases First VoIP Test for Businesses

19 October 2005

Bandwidth.com, a complete business communications provider offering advanced internet, VoIP, network and wireless services to small and medium sized businesses in all 50 states, announced today the release of its VoIP Test. This first-of-its-kind web-based test is designed to provide IT decision makers with valuable information about their company's network and readiness for VoIP. The test checks the network's ports, bandwidth availability and latency, all of which are key components for businesses adopting VoIP solutions.

"Our test takes the guesswork out of purchasing a business class VoIP solution by providing customers with extremely important and often overlooked information upfront," said Henry Kaestner, CEO of Bandwidth.com. "As VoIP continues to penetrate the consumer market as a mainstream calling solution, businesses are now looking at the technology as a way to cut costs while adding features never before possible. Bandwidth has spent several years developing VoIP products for the SMB market and is seeing a tremendous demand for our services. The new VoIP Test is one of the many resources we are offering on our website to demonstrate our unique expertise in the market."

The VoIP Test can be accessed by logging onto http://www.bandwidth.com/tools/voipTest and requires a web browser with Java 1.5 or greater.

The VoIP Test allows businesses to perform the following assessments:

Bi-Directional Bandwidth - This test is designed to show how many VoIP
phone conversations, which require two way data, can be supported at the
same time over the business's current connections. What makes this test
different from other tests of its kind is that it runs in both directions
at the same time, providing a much higher degree of accuracy versus tests
which only run in one direction.

VoIP Port Availability - Targets the standard UDP VoIP ports used by the
two dominant industry VoIP protocols, SIP and MGCP, checking to see if a
company's ports are blocked, possibly by a firewall or NAT device, and if
they are, works with the user to find a way to unblock them.

Latency - Tests how long it takes for voice to travel across VoIP lines
and back again. If a company's latency is too high, there will be a
noticeable degradation in call quality such as audio lapses, one-way audio
and dropped calls.

In addition to the VoIP Test, Bandwidth also offers several other innovative telecom tools located on the website including a Bandwidth Speed Test and Installation Tracker. By working with top partners such as Level 3 and Sylantro, Bandwidth is dedicated to simplifying business operations by being a single source for all telecom needs, saving businesses time and money while increasing productivity.
