Bluefire Introduces First VPN Client for Handheld Devices Running Microsoft Windows Mobile(R) 2003 and Windows Mobile(R) 5.0

16 November 2005

Bluefire Security Technologies, Inc., a developer of security solutions for mobile handheld devices, today announced the availability of Virtual Private Network (VPN) client software for use by Cisco networking customers with portable handheld devices operating Windows Mobile(R) 2003 and Windows Mobile(R) 5.0. Bluefire made the new VPN application available after its Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite 3.5 and Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN 2.0 applications has met the Cisco Technology Developer Program criteria for interoperability with the Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator. "As Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0-based handheld devices enter the market, Cisco networking customers can be confident in the integrity and security of their data with the use of Bluefire's VPN client software that has been verified by an independent third-party to be interoperable with the Cisco VPN 3000 concentrator," said Bluefire CEO Mark Komisky. Bluefire joined the Cisco Technology Developer Program as a Secure Connectivity participant. Through participation in the Cisco Technology Developer Program, the Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite 3.5 and Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN 2.0 offer enterprise customers a comprehensive solution to address growing concerns about the integrity and security of important data stored on and transmitted by mobile handheld devices and wireless networks. "A recent survey conducted by Bluefire indicated that most enterprise customers are aware of and concerned about growing threats to the security of their wireless data and networks," added Komisky. "Bluefire's new VPN client will help to alleviate those concerns. And, our third-party verified compatibility with Cisco hardware provides our customers with yet another reason to be confident in the quality and level of protection and security offered by Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) software." One such customer was introduced to Bluefire by Datamaxx, a government reseller. Bluefire was identified by Datamaxx as the vendor of choice to provide mobile security software for a government agency deploying several thousand mobile devices connecting remotely with a Cisco VPN concentrator. "We were pleased that Bluefire had a complete suite of products which provided the required level of security at the high level required by a government customer," said Jim Cole of Datamaxx. "We knew Bluefire would be able to quickly and effectively deploy a VPN for the client, but the fact that Bluefire has been verified by an independent third-party to interoperate with Cisco reinforces the wisdom of our decision." The Cisco Technology Developer Program sets criteria for interoperability testing and helps leading product and services firms to deploy innovative business solutions. The program provides enterprise or service provider customers with information regarding Cisco Technology Developer Partner products and services that the Cisco Technology Developer Partner believes meet the program's criteria for interoperability with Cisco networking technology. "Cisco supports open, standards-based architectures and shares Bluefire's commitment to interoperable solutions. Through this vision, the Cisco Technology Developer Program delivers the power of choice to enterprises and service providers -- the ability to extend the Cisco end-to-end architecture with our participants' solid products and technologies," said Cisco Partner Manager Sue Flaherty. "With Cisco Technology Developer Program member offerings such as the Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite 3.5 and Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN 2.0, customers can deploy a broad range of business solutions that foster innovation and drive rapid adoption of business-critical technologies." The Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite 3.5 offers a full-featured security solution including authentication, encryption, integrity monitoring, firewall, logging, and central management with full OTA (Over-the-Air) capability for security policy management. The Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN 2.0 is a IPSec virtual private network (VPN) client bundled with RSA's BSAFE(R) Encryption, and compliant with Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 (FIPS 140-2). The Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN operates seamlessly across LAN, WLAN, GPRS/EDGE and 1xRTT/1EV-DO with no user intervention required. About Bluefire Security Technologies, Inc. Bluefire Security Technologies provides a complete security solution specifically designed for mobile handheld devices. The Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite is the industry's only fully integrated security solution including authentication, encryption, integrity monitoring, firewall, logging and central management. Bluefire enables the secure deployment and use of handhelds across the enterprise by allowing handheld devices to be secured as part of the IT network infrastructure. Bluefire Security Technologies recently won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 - Maryland Award. Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) solutions support the Microsoft Windows (WM) 2003, WM 5.0 and Palm operating systems; are available directly from Bluefire in the United States, and internationally through Ubitexx GmbH (Germany), Boxing Orange (UK) and Synergy Software Systems (UAE); and are certified by Cingular Wireless.
