Brasil Telecom Offers Enhanced Broadband Networking With 2Wire Intelligent Gateways

2 May 2006

Brasil Telecom and 2Wire, a provider of broadband service delivery platforms, today announced plans to offer 2Wire's intelligent broadband gateways to Brasil Telecom's small business subscribers. 2Wire's quick-install gateways create powerful wireless broadband networks within the home or small office.

2Wire's HomePortal(R) intelligent gateways make it possible for several users to share a single broadband connection and to network multiple PCs, laptops, and printers. Secure, high-performance wireless technology allows gateway users to access the network from anywhere in the home or office, without cumbersome wires. The gateway's 802.11g wireless router features 2Wire's high-powered Hyper G(TM) technology and triple antenna for increased wireless reach throughout the home or office. It also includes a high performance ADSL modem for broadband Internet access and a customized set-up wizard so subscribers can get connected quickly and easily.

Optional premium broadband applications enabled by 2Wire intelligent gateways include Firewall Monitor, Internet Access Controls, and Web Remote Access:

* Firewall Monitor protects the entire small office network against

hacker attacks.

* Internet Access Controls is a flexible tool that allows a network

administrator to place limits on how and when each networked

computer accesses the Internet. The administrator can block or allow

specific applications like Web browsing or instant messaging.

Settings can be modified from any computer on the network, or even

remotely, through the Web Remote Access service.

* Web Remote Access allows subscribers to access and download files

stored on their home or office network from any location, at any

time, using any standard Web browser.

Firewall Monitor and Internet Access Controls will be automatically provided to subscribers, free of charge, as part of the Brasil Telecom's Small Business Networking promotional offer.

The intelligent gateway is software upgradeable, allowing subscribers to stay up to date with the latest broadband services and feature updates, and 2Wire's Component Management System (CMS) provides automatic upgrades and remote diagnostics for improved customer care.

2Wire's intelligent gateways also provide a platform for Brasil Telecom to roll out additional broadband services in the future, such as PC networked security, remote access office monitoring applications, and Voice over IP services -- all of which can be remotely provided using 2Wire's Component Management System (CMS).
