C I Hosts Faulkner Discusses New Viruses That Attack Cell Phones and Mobile Devices30 December 2004
Experts predicted in 2004 we would see the first cell phone virus, and with just two days remaining, the threat has become reality. New variants of Cabir (Cabir.I and Cabir.H) were detected this week. Experts report these new viruses have mastered replication -- unlike previous strains discovered in June.
The new versions of Cabir spread among cell phones and other mobile devices using a specially formatted Symbian operating system (SIS) file that is disguised as a security management utility. Cabir.I and Cabir.H reportedly spreads more quickly than its predecessor and blocks legitimate Bluetooth wireless connections and rapidly consumes infected devices' battery life.
Industry expert Christopher Faulkner is prepared to discuss Cabir viruses -- what consumers should know and how they can protect himself or herself. Faulkner is CEO and founder of C I Host, the largest privately held Web hosting firm, serving 215,000 clients in 190 countries.
C I Host is centrally located and accessible to both coasts via the DFW Airport, just a few miles away. Faulkner is available for in-studio interviews given advance notice.
