Cingular Wireless & Tennessee Titans Team Up for Recycling Campaign5 July 2005
Have an old wireless phone just sitting around that you don't use anymore? Cingular Wireless wants you to bring it to one of its middle Tennessee stores for a recycling campaign to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. From July 1 through the end of the year, Cingular will collect used phones -- regardless of the carrier -- to be sent to Wireless Redemption for recycling. Wireless Redemption in turn will pay Cingular for the phones it has collected. All funds raised through the recycling program will go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank. "Giving back to the community is a top priority for our company," said Jim McHargue, the director of sales for Cingular's Central Tennessee market. "The Second Harvest Food Bank is an incredible organization that's making a difference in our community by striving to end hunger. I can't think of a more worthwhile cause than that." In addition, used wireless phones will be collected at the October 16 Tennessee Titans home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. A check will be presented to Second Harvest Food Bank during halftime at the Titans' December 18 game against the Seattle Seahawks. "We are so appreciative of Cingular's support and commitment to our mission," said Jaynee Day, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. "It is essential that we all work together to help our neighbors in need." Cingular raised more than $4,000 for the food bank last year through a used phone drive at one of the Titan's home games. This year the recycling benefit was expanded into Cingular stores and extended for six months in order to raise more money for the nonprofit.
