Cingular Wireless Turns on New Cell Site in Madison County

A new Cingular Wireless cell site in the community of Pinetta in northern Madison County is providing coverage along Highways 153, 53 and County Road 150.

The new Madison County cell site is one of 40 new sites to be turned on this year in North, Central and West Florida by the nation's largest wireless carrier. The sites, along with the completion of the integration of the AT&T Wireless and Cingular networks throughout North, Central and West Florida earlier this year, are part of a $370 million network investment statewide. Network integration in South Florida will be completed this summer.

"We realize how important coverage is to our customers, and our goal is to deliver the best in Florida," said Dan Norman, vice-president and general manager for Cingular's West, Central and North Florida markets

Cingular also plans to roll out its third-generation (3G) high-speed broadband wireless network throughout Florida this summer. The service provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 kilobits per second on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.
