EFJ, Inc.'s 3e Technologies International Receives FIPS 140-2 Validation(TM) for OEM Module

IRVING, Texas, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ EFJ, Inc. (Nasdaq: EFJI) announced today that its 3e Technologies International (3eTI) AirGuard(TM) model 3e-523-F2 OEM module received National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) certificate number 726 on December 13, 2006, making it 3eTI's newest addition to its growing list of FIPS 140-2 Validated(TM) products by the company.

This new module is intended to be embedded into different wireless platforms. FIPS 140-2 Validation(TM) will greatly shorten the time to market for new applications of this product. The 3e-523-F2 has a high level of functionality and can be used to provide client, bridging, access point, and mesh wireless services with security mechanisms consistent with DoD and Federal requirements. Some of the initial applications for this product include wirelessly enabling medical carts, sensors, and process automation.

Achieving this milestone makes this product eligible for government use, as it now meets stringent requirements and standards for cryptographic security. The use of validated cryptographic modules is required by the U.S. government for all unclassified uses of cryptography. The government of Canada also recommends the use of FIPS 140 validated cryptographic modules in unclassified applications of its departments.document.write('');

FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria are both widely used government security standards which have become a growing concern in today's security market. FIPS 140-2 applies to products that contain cryptography and are sold to governments and financial institutions. If a product that is sold to the government uses cryptography, then it must be FIPS 140-2 validated.
