EMS SATCOM CNX Cabin Network Device Receives Expanded STC for 802.11 Wireless Operation

9 November 2005

Today, EMS SATCOM, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), reported that its eNfusion Cabin Network Xcelerator(tm) cabin network device (CNX) has received an expanded STC (supplemental type certificate), which now includes its operation with 802.11g wireless functionality.

"We understand what it takes to get equipment installed and certified for flight," commented Jean Menard, director of commercial sales at EMS SATCOM. "This expanded STC will help reduce the work and worry associated with networking equipment, making it easier to have high-speed data on aircraft and allow passengers to benefit from in-flight office functionality."

The eNfusion CNX device is a multi-function cabin network device that replaces a mixture of commercial off-the-shelf networking hardware, including: hubs, routers, Ethernet switches, multiplexers and 802.11g wireless-access points. It provides integrated cabin communications to passengers, with up to eight Ethernet connections. It provides Swift64 services, including MPDS, and is Inmarsat SwiftBroadband-ready.

More about the eNfusion CNX cabin network device

The eNfusion CNX cabin network device is light and, at only 12 pounds, it saves a significant amount of weight (2.5-to-3 pounds) and volume when compared with the traditional combination of devices -- a significant plus for smaller aircraft installations. It is easy to configure, doing the work of Ethernet, serial and ISDN data routing, and it is compatible with virtually any Satcom system. The eNfusion CNX device features data compression that provides up to four times better performance than traditional networking equipment.
