GIPS Technology Selected by Leading Chip Maker to Provide Highest Grade Voice Quality in ATA Solutions

10 October 2005

Global IP Sound (GIPS), the leading provider of embedded voice-processing solutions for the Voice over IP (VoIP) market, today announced that WavePlus Technology Corp., a fabless semiconductor firm specializing in the ASIC design for home networking technologies, has selected GIPS VoiceEngine™ Embedded software to provide superior sound quality in its products. Initially, VoiceEngine Embedded will be utilized in WavePlus' WP3220 and WP3221 Home Gateway Processors and extended to follow-up product lines.

"Having had great success in the ISP market the natural progression for GIPS is to work with companies like WavePlus to deliver optimum voice quality for hardware solutions. GIPS is excited to be working with a company the caliber of WavePlus," said Gary P. Hermansen, President and CEO of Global IP Sound. "With our VoiceEngine family of products, GIPS has dedicated itself to enable the highest possible quality across all IP-enabled communications platforms."

WavePlus is intending to use VoiceEngine Embedded in a broad array of solutions, including gateways, IP phones and ATA products targeted at telecommunications vendors, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP). The company's recently introduced WP3220 and WP3221 chipsets are tightly and seamlessly integrated to give manufacturers a versatile System on a Chip (SoC) platform for the development of wired and wireless networking devices.

The WP322x family chipset integrates a powerful processor, Ethernet switch, 5-port PHY, PCI and a versatile telephony interface in a single chip. Together, the pair allows developers the power and flexibility to quickly design systems. WavePlus' new product, which will be added to its current series of gateway processors, is slated to mass production in mid October 2005.

GIPS VoiceEngine Embedded, which delivers the superior voice quality performance in the WavePlus solution, provides a single piece of software that handles all the necessary voice-related tasks for the solution. The comprehensive nature of VE Embedded eradicated for WavePlus the cost and complexity involved in purchasing individual components or creating a proprietary software framework.

"We are convinced that GIPS leadership in sound processing technology will help us to achieve our goals of enhancing the pervasiveness and quality of today's networks," said Lon Wu, Vice President of Marketing at WavePlus. "For home networking and consumer electronics customers, superior sound quality remains a clear differentiator."

The patented technology and best-in-class components in VoiceEngine Embedded are field proven and deliver sophisticated speech enhancements, including echo cancellation. VoiceEngine Embedded guarantees the best voice quality with the lowest possible delay.

The platform is based upon a richly featured and flexible API to empower vendors of CPU-based VoIP hardware, such as hardware IP phones or residential gateways, to get their products to market rapidly while reducing development costs. Using VoiceEngine Embedded, chip manufacturers can concentrate on their core competencies rather than the complex issues associated with voice processing.

VE Embedded supports a broad array of architectures, including MIPS, Xscale/ARM and other CPU technologies. The platform, which is compatible with all existing industry standards, ensures that manufacturers can achieve consistent and unmatched voice quality across an entire product line.

Devices built on the VoiceEngine platform offer the added advantage of being interoperable with all existing solutions that use GIPS technology. Currently, a solid roster of leading VoIP companies is using GIPS VoiceEngine to enhance voice quality in their solutions.
