Good Technology Supports the Symbol MC50 Enterprise Digital Assistant25 January 2005
Good Technology, Inc., the leader in wireless handheld computing software and service for the enterprise, today announced support for Symbol Technologies' (NYSE: SBL) MC50 Wi-Fi Pocket PC Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA). Good Technology's award-winning wireless messaging solution, GoodLink(TM), and Good's newly unveiled GoodAccess(TM), will run on the durable MC50 EDA. The MC50 comes equipped with integrated wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) connectivity and data capture options, including 1D bar code scanning and 2D image capture or one megapixel color camera configurations, as well as VoIP telephony support. Good Technology will demonstrate GoodAccess on the Symbol MC50 live today at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time/2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The live and recorded Webcast can be accessed at http://www.good.com/webcast/ . "Mobility provides enterprise professionals with the ability to make real-time, well-informed decisions to drive business and enhance customer satisfaction," said Chuck Dourlet, vice president of Mobile Computing, Symbol Technologies. "The MC50's durable design and integrated features, coupled with Good's secure platform to wirelessly extend enterprise and Outlook applications, offers a powerful solution for mobile workers on the sales floor, at the data center, or in the warehouse to capture, move and manage data at the point of business activity." Good Technology also announced GoodAccess, an industry-standards-based platform for rapidly developing and deploying mobile applications to handheld computers such as the Symbol MC50 EDA (see related release "Good Technology Extends Enterprise Applications Wirelessly with GoodAccess"). The GoodAccess system allows business analysts to assemble customized wireless applications without costly, IT time-intensive custom coding. GoodAccess securely mobilizes enterprise applications using end-to-end AES encryption and advanced handheld controls. GoodLink and GoodAccess on the Symbol MC50 will enable mobile professionals in retail, sales, manufacturing and IT, as well as corporate executives, to increase productivity and efficiency with secure, real time access to the enterprise systems and information they need when and where they need them in a campus environment. Good's end-to-end AES encryption secures all information that traverses a Wi-Fi network, alleviating a primary concern with network intrusion.
Using GoodAccess on the Symbol MC50: -- A retail manager on a sales floor can monitor and manage merchandise pricing, inventory availability and other real-time retail management applications. -- A sales person at a customer site can access order status information, retrieve the latest product information and place an order and lock in a sale. -- An IT or field service manager away from his desk can assign a trouble ticket to a resource, check the status of an IT asset and review service history. -- A supply chain management professional in the warehouse can access delivery schedules and inventory supplies.
All of these applications can be accessed securely, utilizing Good's end-to-end AES encryption and sophisticated handheld controls. "Mobile executives have come to rely on Good to securely extend their Outlook applications on their handhelds," said Sue Forbes, vice president, Marketing, Good Technology. "Now, with the combination of GoodAccess and Symbol's Wi-Fi enabled EDA device, we are providing the millions of mobile workers in manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and other high mobility campus markets with laptop power in their pockets. Productivity and customer responsiveness in these markets are about to get a big boost." GoodLink and GoodAccess will be available for the Symbol MC50 in early March 2005.
