Innovative Integration's Quixote DSP Card Now Supports MatLab Quixote Combes TI's TMS320C6416 DSP & Xilinx's 6M Gate Virtex II FPGA, for Wireless & Hi17 May 2006
Innovative Integration announced their Quixote DSP card, combining a 600 MHz TMS320C6416 from Texas Instruments (TI), a 6 million gate Virtex-II FPGA and with dual 105 MHz 14-bit A/D and D/A channels now supports MatLab. Quixote provides unprecedented bandwidth for cPCI-based software-defined radios, wireless IP development & hardware testing, ultra-fast flexible data acquisition, vector signal generation, signal identification, RADAR, and electronic warfare. The analog front features 105 MHz 14-bit I/Q input and output channels tightly coupled to the FPGA for narrow band or wideband wireless applications. Quixote comes ready to use with digital up/down conversion channels configurable as narrow or wideband receivers, but also may be programmed by the user for ultra high-speed hardware-assisted processing. The flexible C6416 DSP handles high-end signal processing challenges like multi-threaded programs, adaptive algorithms and communication with the host layer. The FPGA provides ultra-high speed, hardware-assisted processing for channel spreading/despreading, channel coding and downconversion. Quixote offers several advantages over competitive architectures such as the tight integration of the analog front-end with the FPGA, an FPGA processing core with high speed private memory, a 1 GB/s burst bus from the FPGA to the DSP, and high speed connectivity to the system using a 64-bit PCI or ChannelLink interfaces. Private zero bus turnaround (ZBT) synch-ronous burst static random access memory (SBSRAM) for the FPGA allows for complex processing of large blocks of data. With the power and flexibility of these resources on Quixote, developers have the ability to implement in software a wide variety of radios, communications testers and other high-speed applications to add new capabilities to their products, or customize their application without developing new hardware. Also available on Quixote is a choice of PMC/XMC modules. The PMC family integrates ultra-fast signal capture, generation and co-processing on an advanced PMC architecture. Each card combines new generation analog devices with large user-reconfigurable Virtex-II Pro FPGA, ample DDR memory and low fitter clocks/triggers on a 64/66 PCI with a private JN4 64-bit user I/O port and a XMC 4-lane Rocket I/O (per VITA 42) that connects straight to the FPGA of our Velocia cPCI boards or other carriers. This ultimate connectivity allows for rapid deployment of the most advanced systems in SDR, signal intelligence, RADAR, radio test equipment. The Pismo Development Software and logic framework provided with Quixote simplifies hardware integration allowing developers to immediately channel efforts towards their application. With many logic cores available for the Virtex II, including free Xilinx cores for digital receiver/transmitter, engineers can build complex signal processing schemes by integrating these reusable logic designs with their specific application code. The Quixote Development Package includes the Quixote card, TI Code Composer Studio(TM) DSP development & debugging tools, JTAG debugger & the Pismo toolset for Quixote. The Quixote boards are listed from $9,900 to $19,500 depending on the configuration.
