Innovative LPS 8.4 Solution From Loftware, the Only User-Configurable Product in its Class to Support Both Legacy Bar Codes and RFID Smart Tags, Now I

15 February 2006

Coming just four months following the release last September of GEN2-compliant advances to its flagship all-in-one barcode label printing and RFID 'Smart Label' software system, Loftware today announced it has again expanded its offerings with the significant addition of RFID reader support for Alien, Symbol, ThingMagic, and AWID. Available immediately, the new Loftware Print Server (LPS) 8.4 delivers new RFID reader functionality that not only represents the next logical step in the Company's long history of innovation in marking technology, but also delivers a uniquely-positioned and timely solution for systems requiring a mixture of barcode and RFID technology, while remaining hardware agnostic.

A proven brand leader for its ability to integrate from a centralized software platform both RFID 'Smart Labels' as well as traditional bar code labeling, this latest release of the Loftware Print Server further extends these capabilities by adding software support for fixed mount RFID reader technology from companies like Alien, Symbol, AWID and ThingMagic. As a result, companies implementing pilot programs can use multiple hardware devices with a single software solution from Loftware. Loftware's highly integrated, multi-device platform encodes and now reads both 'Smart Labels' and RF Tags to perform real time use cases, including building, receiving, and verifying pallets.

The Loftware Print Server is a server-based software solution for managing and processing barcode label and RFID 'Smart Label' requests from corporate applications. An enterprise-class solution, LPS 8.4 is a highly-scalable and fault tolerant system designed to handle thousands of requests targeted to hundreds (or thousands) of printers, whether local or remote, with all of the appropriate queuing, status, and recovery features expected in advanced enterprise systems. Key to its leading market status is the product's seamless integration of Department of Defense (DOD) and EPC specifications via universal interfaces for HF, UHF, and GEN 2 RFID whether printing smart labels or encoding RFID tags.

"The key to this advanced solution from Loftware," said Chief Technology Officer Dana Anderson, "Is that with a single instance of the print server, a user can meet barcode and smart label requirements as well as other RFID use cases like verification, pallet building, and pallet receiving. LPS 8.4 allows those with an existing legacy barcode infrastructure who want to bring RFID into their operations a less disruptive 'phased in' approach."

Preview of Real-World Pallet Demo at RFID World in Dallas

At RFID World this February 27th to March 1st at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Dallas, Texas, Loftware will be demonstrating several real-world, real-time applications of LPS 8.4 and reader functionality. The demonstration will show the integration of pallet building along with smart label printing. Once a pallet is built and verified using cartons marked with SGTIN tags, an SSCC pallet tag will be automatically produced with the same application.
