Linksys Home Networking Products Make Hot Tech Gifts for the 2004 Holiday Season

1 December 2004

Linksys®, a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., the leading provider of broadband, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and small business markets, today announced great “hot tech gift” ideas this holiday season for everyone on your shopping list. From wireless gaming devices for the little ones, to streaming video products for the family, or Voice-over-IP (VoIP) solutions for college students, Linksys has those hard-to-get gifts for friends and family ages 5 to 95 that are sure to brighten anyone’s holiday.

Home networking is not just for Internet sharing or sharing printers anymore. Linksys has developed solutions that would make any kid shout “Thanks Mom and Dad” as they unwrap a Wireless-G Game Adapter (WGA54G) that enables them to connect their Xbox or PlayStation to the Internet to play multi-player games --or how about a Wireless Music System (WMLS11B) for mom so she can play her favorite MP3 tunes stored on the family PC out in the kitchen or at the pool? A family would also love a Wireless A/G Media Center Extender (WMCE54AG) to go with their new Media Center PC. The Media Center Extender streams homemade or downloaded premium movies and digital photos stored on a Windows Media Center PC to TVs around the home for the whole family to enjoy.

Grandma would also appreciate a Wireless-G Internet Video Camera (WVC54G) so she can view and talk to her grandkids over the Internet when ever she wants. And for your students – what a better way to save a little extra cash then with a Phone Adapter with 2 Voice ports (PAP2). The phone adapter combined with a subscription to a specific VoIP service plan, such as AT&T CallVantageSM or Vonage®, turns an existing Internet connection into a high-quality phone line for placing and receiving phone calls to and from friends and family.

IDC, an international market research firm recently reported that there will be 47 million home networks installed worldwide by the end of 2004 and will grow to 111 million by the end of 2008. Mike Wagner, Linksys Worldwide Director of Marketing said, “With all these home networks being installed, users will want to start connecting everything possible in a home to communicate. And what better way to start connecting is to give the gift of connectivity! We have networking gifts for all ages with holiday rebates that help shoppers save a little extra during the season.”
