Microsemi Circuits Support Airgo Networks' Chipset Reference Design29 January 2005
Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC) announced today that its high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits support the first IEEE802.11n WI-FI developments in full production targeting mass consumer markets.
Belkin Corporation uses the Microsemi components in their industry-first Wireless Pre-N Router and Notebook Network Card based on a True MIMO(tm) chipset reference design created by Airgo Networks. True MIMO (multiple in/multiple out) technology transmits multiple signals in a single radio channel--thus multiplying both data rates and reliable coverage area without wasting valuable radio spectrum.
The new Belkin products are the first in full production to offer worldwide retail distribution of True MIMO wireless products having the bandwidth and quality of service needed to run advanced applications such as streaming video or Voice over IP (VoIP) in the consumer market.
Microsemi integrated circuits that support the Airgo chipset includes power amplifiers designed for IEEE802.11a/b/g WLAN applications and a fixed/adjustable voltage linear regulator that combines low dropout, high accuracy, ultralow ground current and fast response.
Microsemi WLAN power amplifiers-- designed for an advanced InGaP/GaAs HBT manufacturing process-- feature active bias, power detection, on-chip input/interstage matching plus the low current consumption required in portable applications.
"Microsemi has been at the forefront of power amplifiers for 802.11a/b/g applications, so naturally we are pleased to be extending our capabilities for these next generation 802.11n applications being pioneered by Airgo and Belkin," said Paul Bibeau, Vice President and General Manager of Microsemi's Integrated Circuits Group.
"Consumers can look forward to connecting their more demanding applications at real-world ranges-and without compatibility or interference issues-with these next-generation 802.11n wireless LAN products," Bibeau said.
