Network Chemistry Introduces RFprotect Survey to Automate Design of Secure and Reliable WLANs9 November 2005
Network Chemistry Inc., the wireless security experts, today announced RFprotect™ Survey, a complete tool that uses actual measurements for WLAN deployment planning. RFprotect Survey helps network administrators deploy wireless intrusion detection and prevention (WIDP) sensors in conjunction with WLAN infrastructure, which is now considered best practice among security experts. The laptop-based product increases protection from wireless threats by determining the optimal location and settings of access points (APs) and WIDP sensors. It can be used by enterprises as well as by consultants and system integrators that design, roll out, and manage wireless networks.
Network Chemistry also announced that qualified customers can receive a free copy of RFprotect Survey if they agree to have Network Chemistry perform a site survey and wireless security assessment prior to their deployment of APs and/or WIDP sensors. This offer expires on March 31, 2006.
"Deploying WIDP sensors while rolling out access points is a requirement to ensure the protection of wireless networks, sensitive data, and users," said Brian de Haaff, vice president of product management and marketing at Network Chemistry. "In the past, the deployment planning process was based on either a best guess or a tedious and often inaccurate simulation. RFprotect Survey provides easy-to-use, accurate, and graphical coverage maps based on real-world measurements to determine ideal AP and WIDP sensor placement, count, and settings."
Of particular importance, RFprotect Survey can be used to identify areas of excessive RF leakage, which poses a significant security threat. With the product, network planners can determine how to optimize RF coverage for security by adjusting AP location, count, antenna placement, power settings, and other settings. Administrators can also find out where RF coverage is inadequate for APs and WIDP sensors by understanding what actual end users are experiencing. In effect, RFprotect Survey ensures that enterprises will meet their rollout objectives and that the WLAN will provide the proper coverage -- before spending the time, staff, and money to pull cable and deploy infrastructure.
Once a wireless network is deployed, the product can also be used to audit the coverage area, network capacity, signal strength, interference levels, and data rates as needed to meet network security and performance requirements. For example, reconfiguring an office layout may require a change in the number of APs or WIDP sensors to maintain the proper level of coverage. New, adjacent WLAN deployments and other interference sources may change WLAN performance. Administrators can more quickly resolve WLAN brownouts by routinely surveying for RF interference and coverage and by then comparing the data to previously measured baselines.
The product is immediately available and can be seamlessly upgraded to RFprotect Mobile. In addition to the site survey functionality, RFprotect Mobile provides advanced wireless vulnerability assessment capabilities for walk-around security audits. The laptop-based RFprotect Mobile product is also integrated with Network Chemistry's flagship product, RFprotect Distributed, and can be used to accelerate incident response by precisely locating malicious devices.
