New Primex Wireless Code Blue Digital Timer Extends Wireless Synchronized Time Solution for Healthcare Facilities20 June 2006
As part of its commitment to improving the quality of healthcare, Primex Wireless, Inc., the world leader in GPS wireless synchronized time systems, today introduced a new code blue digital timer that provides reliable elapsed time during life-threatening emergencies. When powered by the company's GPS wireless transmitter and used in conjunction with its line of healthcare-specific clocks, the Primex Wireless Code Blue Digital Timer is part of the first wireless synchronized solution to allow perfectly accurate time to be achieved throughout an entire facility. The new timer will be shown for the first time in the Primex Wireless booth (No. 1525) at the ASHE 2006 Annual Conference, July 10-11 in Boston, MA. "Due to increasing healthcare regulations and processes, medical facilities are required to provide more accurate and detailed patient documentation. It is critical that code blue timers perform as specified to help mitigate a healthcare institutions' risk," explained Kristi Knack, product manager for Primex Wireless. "Many code blue timers are hardwired or operate independently, which means the internal clock mechanism has the potential to drift. Primex Wireless offers a full wireless solution to ensure the timer and all the facility clocks are synchronized to official GPS satellite time." Designed for hospitals, clinics, critical care centers and other healthcare environments, the Primex Wireless Code Blue Digital Timer integrates seamlessly with existing code blue systems. When code blue status is initiated, a relay/pulse is sent to the Primex Wireless Code Blue Timer, which triggers it to begin counting up. When not in use for code blue situations, the timer also functions as a synchronized digital clock. If a code blue status is in effect, it will take priority and the timer's previous task will run in the background until the code blue function is stopped and reset. The timer includes a battery backup to ensure the clock continues to function if power to the code blue system is interrupted. The new code blue timer achieves precise GPS time delivered by the Primex Wireless transmitter. The transmitter delivers a time signal, which is broadcast via a strong FM frequency, to all the timing devices within a facility, synchronizing them to the exact second. With GPS wireless technology, clock changes following Daylight Saving Time and power outages are non-existent, which reduces healthcare facility labor and costs. Because the system is FCC-licensed and runs on a protected 72MHz frequency, concerns about interference with other equipment in the healthcare facility are also eliminated.
