NextHop UNS 4.0 Jumpstarts Unified Wireless and Wired Switching Market With Industry's First Turnkey Software Solution

14 December 2005

NextHop Technologies® Inc., the leader
in networking software solutions, today announced NextHop UNS 4.0, the
world's first secure, enterprise-class software solution for unified
switching. NextHop UNS 4.0 enables network equipment manufacturers to
accelerate time to market, and, more importantly, time to revenue for new
unified wireless and wired local area network (LAN) products at
significantly lower price points versus existing overlay solutions.

"The era of separate and distinct wired and wireless LANs is coming to an
end," said Craig Mathias, a principal with the wireless and mobile advisory
firm Farpoint Group. "The next step is unified LANs, typified by a common
base of functionality serving both wired and wireless users, extensions for
wireless-specific capabilities, and much lower capital and operating
expenses. We expect to see a huge variety of unified products, using
innovative software to exploit very cost-effective, high-performance
hardware."

Network equipment manufacturers who traditionally relied exclusively on
their own development organizations to build complete solutions are faced
with new business realities -- downsized engineering, outsourced
development and the need for value added differentiation -- and are
increasingly looking to original design manufacturers (ODMs) to provide
them with solutions. Innovative ODMs like ASUSTek Computer and Delta
Networks are taking the approach of aggregating open market technologies
(silicon chips and operating systems) with NextHop UNS 4.0 to deliver the
first unified switching products.

"Unified LANs are a significant evolution in enterprise networking," said
Frank Chiang, associate vice president, R&D for ASUSTek Computer. "We
chose to integrate NextHop's industry leading turnkey software solution
with ASUS' robust unified switching products to provide customers with a
complete wireless LAN switching solution."

"Our corporate vision is to provide our clients with cost-effective
products that are superior in quality and reliability," said Sam Liang,
chairman and CEO of Delta Networks Inc. "Using the new wireless LAN
capabilities of NextHop UNS 4.0 in combination with our expert engineering
and service capabilities, we are confident we can help our customers
satisfy the market's demand for new unified switching products."

DNA (Dynamic Network Architecture) is the core of all NextHop software
solutions and enables equipment manufacturers to build the differentiated
best-of-breed solutions required in today's market. DNA delivers modular
software components that are portable across industry standard silicon and
RTOS (real-time operating system) platforms. APIs (application program
interfaces) provide for easy integration of leading ISV (independent
software vendor) applications, with unified management and control
interfaces to provide an easy to understand and operate system.

"Unified switching, endorsed by all the networking market leaders and
influencers, is a disruptive market technology that presents tremendous
opportunities for vendors who quickly adapt to the new market dynamics,"
said Ed Cluss president and CEO of NextHop. "NextHop UNS 4.0 streamlines
innovation for these vendors, enabling them to bring next generation
unified switches to market with unprecedented speed."

Key features of NextHop UNS 4.0 include
Enables truly unified networks,
and eliminates the operational and capital expense of maintaining an
overlay WLAN network
Seamlessly integrates with
enterprise class management stations for both wireless and wired
networking. RF awareness, mapping and management with the ability to
manage all APs (access points) from a single user interface
Enterprise class security for wireless traffic
Designed for carrier-class scalability,
NextHop software is capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding
enterprises, both today and into the future
True mobility (voice, data and
video), across APs, switches, and even across subnets; and fast roaming for
emerging applications such as voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN)

Availability

NextHop UNS 4.0 will be generally available December 20, 2005. Companies
interested in becoming NextHop DNA partners should contact NextHop at
