Objectware Inc and the Embassy of Japan Partner to Launch Online Application for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program

20 November 2005

Objectware Inc, an Atlanta based web and wireless development company, is proud to have been selected by the Embassy of Japan to develop, host and maintain the online Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Shortly before the start of the application season, the Embassy of Japan embraced the need to automate their paper based application process. Therefore, they needed a partner who could create a multi-page application wizard, provide administrative control and PDF creation in “record” time.

Objectware was selected not only for their development and hosting capabilities, but also for their proven ability in the past to respond quickly to tight timelines similar to the Embassy of Japan’s. Objectware delivered, producing a test version of the system for internal testing in just 2 weeks and was able to go to production with a live application after only a single week of additional testing.

After the successful launch Bina Zaitsu, the JET Program Coordinator, noted to Objectware that the Embassy “appreciates your ability to accommodate our needs.” Post-launch support was crucial to the program success, for instance, the day of site launch the application saw over 500 accounts created and submitted. Objectware has remained agile in responding to and resolving all issues promptly as they arise. The result has been an abbreviated “hardening” phase of the application.

Mark Elbert, Objectware’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Director said, “Objectware’s agility was the key to making this program a success. We were able to assess needs, create mockups and move into development in an extremely accelerated manner. More importantly, Objectware’s regimented system of using customer-accessible development servers and quick management response allowed feedback to be received from, as well as enhancements to be implemented and viewed by, our customers at the Embassy of Japan in the same day, even as development was ongoing. Objectware’s agile response to the JET Program’s needs enabled us to exceed our client’s expectation and meet the their aggressive timeline”

About JET
The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program has been in existence since 1987 and is run by the Embassy of Japan in Washington DC to recruit interested US Citizens as English language teachers and cultural ambassadors to live and work in Japan. In 2004, the program received tens of thousands of applicantions and placed 5,000 finalists in communities across Japan. The program has earned a high reputation, both in Japan and overseas, for its efforts in youth and cultural exchanges, and has become one of the largest exchange programmes in the world.
