PowerDsine Certifies SYSTIMAX AirSPEED Wireless Access Points

25 January 2005

PowerDsine(TM) Ltd. (Nasdaq:PDSN), a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, announced today that it has certified the SYSTIMAX(R) AirSPEED(TM) AP542 and AP541 Wireless LAN (WLAN) Access Points (APs) from SYSTIMAX(R) Solutions, the worldwide leader in structured connectivity solutions and services for businesses. During the 2005 BICSI Winter Conference from Jan. 24-27 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, FL, PowerDsine will demo Ethernet-powered devices at Booth No. 630.

PowerDsine delivers comprehensive PoE midspan solutions to corporate enterprises that want to leverage their existing network infrastructure to quickly and cost-effectively deploy Ethernet end-devices. With the PowerDsine PoE midspan solution, enterprises can be confident that their network equipment is compliant with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard.

Traditionally, WLAN installations have required operating power to be delivered separately to each remote wireless AP. At times, this could be a costly task. Furthermore, to achieve effective area coverage and radio reception, WLAN APs have to be installed in specific locations, such as above the ceiling tiles. Often, an AC outlet is not available at these unique locations. With a PoE-enabled solution, network administrators no longer need to place wireless APs near power outlets or hire an electrician to wire additional outlets.

"We are delighted that PowerDsine, which is at the forefront of PoE development, has certified our SYSTIMAX AP542 and AP541 wireless APs," said John Terhoeve, Director, New Business Development, at SYSTIMAX Solutions. "For companies that are installing a SYSTIMAX AirSPEED wireless LAN solution, it is important to know that the wireless application can be installed quickly and cost-effectively, leveraging midspan PoE solutions, which are a vital part of our wireless infrastructure solution for legacy and new installation environments. SYSTIMAX Solutions recognizes the importance of interoperability with many different solutions in the market and PowerDsine's midspan PoE solutions are another example of that commitment to interoperability."

"Through PowerDsine's certification of SYSTIMAX AirSPEED APs, SYSTIMAX Solutions has demonstrated that it is fully committed to delivering PoE-enabled wireless network solutions to enterprise customers who want to utilize their existing networking equipment," said Igal Rotem, CEO and co-founder of PowerDsine. "For many enterprise companies, it does not make sense to replace legacy switching equipment when there is a fast, cost-effective alternative to roll out a wireless LAN application. Using a Midspan solution is that alternative."

The PowerDsine certification process enables manufacturers to submit products to PowerDsine for comprehensive testing and verification with IEEE 802.3af-compliant power hubs. PowerDsine also provides engineering support to assist manufacturers in building PoE-compatible products. About Power over Ethernet Technology

PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.
