Progress Telecom Launches Wireless Last Mile Service

10 October 2005

Progress Telecom, LLC, a
leading provider of fiber-optic based and wireless connectivity solutions for
large enterprises and carriers world wide, today announced that Proximiti
Communications, Inc. has implemented its wireless last mile solution in
Orlando. Progress Telecom's wireless last mile solution is a point-to-point
or point-to-multipoint Ethernet offering designed to enable connectivity
between service providers and their customers.
"Progress Telecom's wireless last mile solution provides CLECs with a fast
and easy alternative in the local loop," said Ron Mudry, Progress Telecom
President and CEO. "In addition to gaining the benefit of scalable Ethernet
connectivity options, customers such as Proximiti also benefit from our
network design, which was engineered to support latency-sensitive applications
such as Voice over IP," added Mr. Mudry. The popularity of VoIP and the speed
with which the service is provisioned, makes this solution well suited to the
needs of many types of service providers, including ISPs, interexchange
carriers and VoIP providers.
Gregg Smith, CEO of Proximiti Communications, said, "Wireless last mile
solutions are going to be an increasing part of our solution set for customers
and can offer great benefits compared to other solutions with flexibility,
speed, and cost. Proximiti expects to offer combined voice and data services
with this wireless solution and believe this combination of features will find
increasing market adoption."
The Progress Telecom wireless last mile solution is currently offered in
Orlando and will be available in the Tampa Bay area later this year.
