Responding to the demand for more cost-efficient and reliable wireless site backhaul, PT Access Networks announced the immediate availability of PT Access First(TM), a broad suite of access infrastructure services for wireless operators. PT Access Networks, which includes the wireless products of the former Progress Telecom, is the first in the industry to offer wireless service providers the unique combination of microwave/fiber-based backhaul, tower attachments and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).
Historically, wireless operators have relied on copper T1 connections from local exchange carriers (LECs) to backhaul traffic from the cell site to their wireless switches. Reliance on such legacy networks can often be costly, unreliable and limiting, particularly as wireless networks begin migrating to Internet Protocol (IP). PT Access Networks offers an innovative approach, incorporating microwave and fiber-based solutions to address quality of service, bandwidth, and the economics of their backhaul needs.
