QUALCOMM Hours of Service Electronic On-Board Recording Application Now Available for Its OmniTRACS(R) Mobile Communication Solution

18 October 2005

QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), a leader in providing mobile communication solutions to the
transportation and logistics industry, today announced that its QUALCOMM Hours
of Service application is now available to the transportation and logistics
industry. QUALCOMM aligned commercial release of the application to ensure
customers would have a tool that is fully compliant with the U.S. Department
of Transportation's (DOT) recently revised hours of service rules.
Understanding that improving dispatch decisions helps increase
productivity and maximize miles per truck per day, QUALCOMM designed its Hours
of Service application as a proactive management tool to help fleets optimize
dispatch assignments by providing accurate, up-to-date driver availability
information to the load planning process. Early feedback from test users
indicates QUALCOMM has achieved a primary design goal for the application --
driver ease-of-use.
"QUALCOMM is proud to offer a complete, easy-to-use system to help
customers improve regulatory compliance through the creation of automated,
accurate hours-of-service logs," said Joan Waltman, president of QUALCOMM
Wireless Business Solutions. "QUALCOMM's commitment to our customers' success
means that we are always looking for ways to help improve our customers'
business. The Hours of Service application allows our customers to benefit
from automated documentation of DOT compliance, as well as from functions that
significantly help increase the productivity and efficiency of drivers,
dispatchers and load planners."

QUALCOMM's Hours of Service application features:

* Up-to-date driver availability calculation based on automatic driving
time detection using vehicle sensor data, minimizing driver
interaction and data entry

* Web interface for review of driver status, availability and reports

* Automatic hours of service reports for driver management and safety
audits

* Near real-time notification to drivers and dispatch of impending or
actual violations

* Support hotline available for roadside inspections 24 hours a day,
seven days a week

QUALCOMM's Hours of Service application is for use with the OmniTRACS
solution and complies with section 395.15 of U.S. DOT regulations governing
the use of electronic on-board recorders to document compliance with DOT hours
of service regulations. As a web-based software service, the information is
delivered to the dispatch system via a web interface or can be viewed online
with a web browser.
The automated record keeping system helps reduce costs substantially by
eliminating manual maintenance and processing of paper logs, as well as by
mitigating driver violations and fines associated with non-compliance.
Up-front investment and driver training before deployment are minimized
because the Hours of Service application runs on the OmniTRACS platform.
Additionally, customers choosing QUALCOMM's Hours of Service application know
that they can be confident in the security and privacy of their information.
QUALCOMM has helped the transportation industry become more efficient
since 1988 when the introduction of the OmniTRACS solution provided
transportation companies with an innovative and effective way of managing
logistics. Today QUALCOMM is the industry's global leader in providing high-
value wireless data solutions with Network Operations Centers that process
more than nine million transactions each day. QUALCOMM has shipped more than
624,000 mobile systems to businesses in 39 countries on four continents.

QUALCOMM Incorporated (http://www.qualcomm.com) is a leader in developing and
