(HONG KONG) -- RF Micro Devices, Inc (RFMD) announced it is shipping volume quantities of its Polaris Total Radio solution for use in the recently announced Ogo wireless device from AT&T Wireless.
The Polaris solution is comprised of GSM/GPRS Polaris transceiver and the company's PowerStar power amplifier (PA) module. Together, these highly integrated components comprise a complete RF subsystem for the new and innovative Ogo mobile device.
Alastair Upton, general manager of digital cellular products of RF Micro Devices, said, "In the December quarter, several other wireless devices using our Polaris transceivers will become available and each presents continued growth opportunities for our transceiver portfolio. We believe we have a very strong solution for both GPRS and next-generation EDGE handsets, and we expect to take significant market share."
The Ogo, which is manufactured by a leading original design manufacturer (ODM) and is now available through AT&T Wireless, is pre-installed with instant messaging (IM) software and features text messaging and email capabilities. The device also provides users IXI's Bluetooth-based Personal Mobile Gateway, which facilitates communications between the Ogo and peripherals, such as digital cameras. The Ogo also features a full QWERTY keyboard, a color screen with 16-bit graphics and a sleek clamshell design.
