silex technology america Launches First Wireless USB Device Server for Wi-Fi Access

6 September 2005

silex technology america, Inc. today announced at RetailVision 2005 the availability of the silex SX-2000WG, the first USB 2.0 Hi-Speed 802.11g wireless device server-ideal for wirelessly sharing USB devices across local networks.
USB device servers provide easy network accessibility or sharing of USB products by client PCs on a Local Area Network (LAN) or wireless LAN. The SX-2000WG also extends the short USB cable limitation for a single user application, and is compatible with most USB devices such as multi-function or all-in-one printers, scanners, and printers. It also connects USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices such as external storage drives. USB 2.0 Hi-Speed is up to 8-times faster than USB 2.0 Full-Speed devices.

"In today's home or office setting, there are still a number of USB devices that are dedicated to only one user," said Keith Sugawara, silex vice president, networking division. "The SX-2000WG solves this problem by delivering the ultimate in convenience and productivity with the wireless sharing of USB devices among family members or co-workers. It also eliminates the costs associated with a dedicated PC workstation for devices such as USB
scanners in enterprise workgroups.

"Since silex technology america's introduction of the first USB device server last summer, it has been a very exciting and fast-growing market, and our customers have pleasantly surprised us with various new applications for USB devices that we felt could be introduced to the world," Sugawara added. "We are excited to be able to provide a solution that changes the way information and technology is shared in people's lives."

In addition to the SX-2000WG, silex's family of USB device servers consists of a variety of wired and wireless options including the SX-1000U, SX-2000U2, and the SX-5000U2.

SX-2000WG-The SX-2000WG is a one-port, 802.11g/b compatible and 10/100 Base-TX USB 2.0 device server designed to connect Hi-Speed USB devices directly to a network.

-- Instantly convert USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a shared wired LAN or
wireless LAN resource (USB 1.1/2.0 Full speed backward compatible).
-- SX-Virtual Link, a USB utility, allows the PC to virtually recognize
the peripheral as if it were directly attached. It allows all computer
users on the network to share USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices such as
scanners, multi-function printers, storage devices, printers, and
other USB-enabled products.
-- Compatibility with Windows XP and Windows 2000.
-- Easy wireless configuration with Microsoft(R) Connect Now.
-- Advanced wireless security support of 64/128 WEP as well as WPA-PSK
(TKIP/AES).
-- MSRP of $149.

Availability
The SX-2000WG is available immediately through all silex resellers nationwide.

Note: silex product photos and spec sheets are available upon request. A link to the press release can be found at: http://www.silexamerica.com/us/about/news/press.html
