Software Technologies Group Announces Availability of 802.15.4 MAC Software for ZigBee

14 September 2005

Software Technologies Group, Inc. today announced the release of IEEE 802.15.4-based Medium Access Control (MAC) level software to speed the development of wireless networking products.

The MAC software allows product developers to quickly create products based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless networking. The software provides advanced features such as support for multiple radios and processor families, robust real time operating system (RTOS) capabilities, sophisticated timers, task management and scheduling, buffer management, UART and I2C support, and FLASH memory management for wireless firmware updates. The MAC software can be used by itself to create an 802.15.4-based product, in conjunction with Software Technologies Group's (STG's) ZigBee protocol stack software or in support of other protocol stacks such as IPv6.

"It takes so much more than just a radio to create a viable wireless product. The MAC software is one part of our software and customization services designed to completely support product manufacturers," said Chris Herzog, President of STG. "Partnering with us allows them to focus on their core competencies and still get exceptional software to take full advantage of their hardware's capabilities and create fully viable wireless networking products."

The MAC software is one part of a suite of software and services which enable the rapid development of 802.15.4 and ZigBee related software including device drivers, control applications and gateway products to connect ZigBee networks to other networks such as TCP/IP.

The MAC software and accompanying RTOS can be customized to meet particular product requirements. It is available now supporting selected radio and processor combinations. Support for other hardware and commercial RTOSes is available. Source and binary licensing is available.
