Sputnik Wi-Fi Management Software Offers Seamless Integration with Microsoft Internet Authentication Service

11 June 2005

Sputnik(R), a leading provider of Wi-Fi management products and services, today announced that its Sputnik Control Center(TM) software now integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Active Directory(R) via Microsoft's Internet Authentication Service (IAS). Corporate network managers can utilize Microsoft's popular single sign-on system with their Sputnik wireless networks for easier administration and increased security and efficiency.

Using Sputnik wireless network management software with Active Directory, many types of businesses, such as law offices, advertising agencies, and hotels, can enforce secure authentication and network policies. They can offer guests Internet access while protecting their internal network resources, all from a single Wi-Fi network.

These new authentication features are part of the enhanced Sputnik Module(TM) for RADIUS, which supports Microsoft Active Directory via IAS. Other improvements include new diagnostic features that enable administrators to test network authentication without needing to deploy wireless access points. The Sputnik Module works with either Sputnik Control Center installed in the administrator's data center or as part of the web-based SputnikNet(TM) and SputnikNet Premier(TM) hosted applications.

RADIUS, a trusted standard for remote user authentication, integrates easily with a variety of billing systems and can be used to facilitate subscriber-based roaming agreements with other Wi-Fi service providers. With the Sputnik Module for RADIUS, detailed accounting information is passed to the customer's RADIUS server.

"No other company in the wireless space integrates so easily with Active Directory for user authentication and tracking--this is a very intelligent solution that suits many of our corporate clients," said M. Richard Harber, president and CEO of decision:DIGITAL, Inc., a wireless solution provider in Atlanta. "Network administrators love the fact that they don't have to add users to multiple servers or access points."

Sputnik software for wireless network management lets network administrators track usage by user and location, and capture "opt-in" marketing information about their wireless customers. Administrators can block usage of specific protocols such as peer-to-peer file swapping, and secure internal networks, making them available only to employees. In addition to monitoring real-time network status, administrators use the secure web interface to configure access points remotely, create custom captive portal pages, set network policies, and generate reports.

"Sputnik wireless network management software leads the industry in supplying the features and capabilities both service providers and businesses need to deploy and maintain small and large wireless networks," said David LaDuke, Sputnik founder and CEO. "Offering seamless integration with Microsoft's popular single sign-on system makes wireless networks even more attractive to businesses."

Price and Delivery

The Sputnik Module for RADIUS which supports Active Directory is available for a limited time at the introductory price of $299 for a server license. Existing customers can upgrade to the new version at no charge.

Sputnik wireless network management products are available now from the Sputnik online store at http://www.sputnik.com/store/index.php and distribution partners.
