Vodafone New Zealand to offer mobile broadbandchoices Auckland, 13 March 2006 Vodafone is to offer NewZealanders mobile broadband solutions, confirming today thatit will launch 3G Broadband by the end of the year. "3GBroadband opens up a new dimension of fast and simpleworking and harnesses the advantages of mobility, takinginternet access in New Zealand to a whole new level," saysVodafone New Zealand CEO Russell Stanners. "Vodafonebrought competition to the New Zealand market -- we did itwith mobile phones and we can do it with 3Gbroadband." The new service will be offered on Vodafone s3G mobile network. With 3G Broadband customers will benefitfrom initial download data speeds up to 4-5 times fasterthan currently available, offering for the first time amobile experience similar to current standard DSLrates.* Stanners says that reducing the dependency onfixed lines for broadband will allow New Zealand businessesto transform themselves. "By increasing theirproductivity, reducing their downtime, cutting costs andimproving their efficiency, businesses will be able toamplify their productivity and make a greater contributionto our economic growth." Vodafone has already investedhundreds of millions of dollars in its 3G network to deliverNew Zealand-first mobile services like video calling tocustomers. Stanners says the launch of 3G Broadband in NewZealand is another step towards providing customers with atrue mobile broadband experience, whether at home or roamingon Vodafone s international network. "The launch of our 3Gnetwork in 2005, while a significant milestone, signalledthe start of a whole new mobile journey. 3G Broadband hasalways been an option for us as it is the natural evolutionof our technology roadmap." Stanners says 3G broadband isa real solution for customers broadband needs. "3GBroadband will offer customers using the Vodafone networkfaster speeds and the ability to transfer and share largerfiles," he says. "Our research here in New Zealandconfirms that 3G Broadband can meet the real customer needsof 60%-80% of all internet users - and it provides the addedbenefit of mobility. Around 3.8 million mobile users in NewZealand need broadband solutions, as much, if not more than1.4 million households!" Vodafone New Zealand has beenrunning 3G Broadband laboratory trials for the past sixmonths. Details about specific 3G Broadband products andservices, pricing or intended roll-out plan are currentlynot being made available. The company is keen to roll out3G Broadband to as many customers as possible, as quickly aspossible, Stannerssays.
