WebTech Wireless Extends Quadrant Locator Product Suite

14 November 2006

WebTech Wireless (TSX VENTURE: WEW), a leading supplier of mobile telematics and GPS fleet management solutions, today announces the release of three new products that present even more choice for transportation fleet operators to cost-effectively access fleet tracking and telematics data communication and location-based services. The suite of products includes the WT5800 Locator, which operates over WiFi, the WT1700 Locator Bluetooth Adapter Kit and the Locator Driver ID Kit. These new products extend WebTech's product range to one of the industry's most comprehensive fleet management solutions by providing alternatives that reduce cellular charges, improve driver communications and manage driver access to vehicles. The devices provide data and location-based services through WebTech's multi-language fleet services platform - Quadrant™.

No need for cellular modem upgrades and multiple cellular data service plans

The WT5800 Locator provides a cost-effective alternative for companies to benefit from Quadrant's fleet management system for organizations that don't require real-time updates or driver data communications while on the road. Location and vehicle telemetry information is stored in the WT5800 and uploaded automatically when the vehicle returns to a company's authorized 802.11 LAN coverage areas. The WT5800 is also a cost effective alternative for managing fleets that operate inside a WiFi campus area, such as an airport or open pit mine. The WT5800 can communicate over any standard 802.11 access point that may be installed at vehicle depots, re-load points or even in the driver's home.

The WT1700 Bluetooth Adapter Kit connects to a WebTech cellular Locator to provide a Bluetooth Vehicle Area Network for Bluetooth-enabled laptops, PDAs and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) devices. The WT1700 provides a simple and cost-effective method for companies to provide their field service personnel with real-time access to their back-office applications through readily available Bluetooth-enabled handheld devices, without the need for cellular modem upgrades to the handheld and multiple cellular data service plans. The PDA or laptop can be configured to automatically connect and communicate over the Locator cellular channel when in range of the Bluetooth signal, providing fast and convenient access from a truck or sleeper berth.

The Locator Driver ID kit provides a convenient solution to monitor vehicle usage by individual drivers. Requiring only a WebTech Locator and an iButton keyfob, the Locator Driver ID kit connects directly to an available serial port on the WebTech Locator. When a driver's iButton keyfob containing their unique ID is pressed against the reader probe, the driver is automatically identified and registered to the vehicle. This application is important to fleets that transport dangerous goods to address Homeland Security. Additional starter controls can be added so that only authorized drivers can be allowed to start the vehicle.

"Giving our customers access to GPS tracking and location based services without the need for cellular charges enhances our delivery of the right solutions at the right price to our customers," comments Cameron Fraser, CTO of WebTech Wireless. "Incorporating WiFi and Bluetooth into our suite of GSM-based products, gives transportation customers the ability to create even more business efficiencies without unnecessary hardware purchases."

WebTech will be demonstrating the new products in a booth co-hosted with IBM at the American Trucking Association Management Conference and Exhibition in Dallas, Texas, October 28-31, 2006. Please visit WebTech Wireless in the IBM Booth, #115.
