Wireless Computing Introduces Extended-Range Wireless Keyboards to Protect Against Eavesdropping

5 June 2005

New versions of the RF-220 Compact Wireless Keyboard and RF-250 Full-Sized Wireless Keyboard will be introduced at INFOCOMM 2005 in Booth 2529. Enhancements include keystroke -by-keystroke encryption to protect against illicit interception of credit card numbers, passwords, account numbers and other typed information.

According to Martin Phillips, president of Wireless Computing, "Encryption is a plus for everyone who uses a wireless keyboard, whether at work or at home. It is particularly important when the wireless keyboard is used in a security-conscious organization such as a bank, military base, hospital, or government office."

Addressing the Security Issue
Security can be a critical issue for the extended-
range (100-foot) wireless keyboards used in conference rooms, training rooms and other audience- oriented settings. Extended-range wireless keyboards are prone to interception because of their substantial transmit distances. So if sensitive information is to be typed, encryption becomes vitally important.

Full-Sized Wireless Keyboard
The RF-250 Wireless Keyboard is a 104-key, 2-way RF keyboard with a gel wrist rest and touch pad mouse. 2-way RF technology gives industry-leading 100-foot operating range and excellent immunity to interference, whiletransmitted keystrokes are encrypted to protect against illicit interception. The RF-250 includes a PS/2 port so a corded mouse can be connected in place of the touch pad mouse. A USB receiver is standard, and a PS/2 receiver is available. The RF-250's suggested retail price is $299.

Compact Wireless Keyboard
The RF-220 Compact Wireless Keyboard is an 86-key, reduced-footprint, 2-way RF keyboard with a built-in mouse stick. It shares the RF-250's 100-foot operating range and excellent immunity to interference And like the RF-250, the RF-220 encrypts transmitted keystrokes to protect against illicit interception. A USB receiver is standard, and a PS/2 receiver is available. The RF-220's suggested retail price is $199.
