WiZZ Deploys a Cisco Based Business Wireless Service

22 May 2005

WiZZ Communications, a wholesale service provider, has deployed Cisco Systems® wireless and other networking technology to create a leading wireless network for business. The network allows Wizz's service provider customers to deliver advanced services such as e-learning and videoconferencing and to reach end customers outside metropolitan areas.

The WiZZ network, based on Cisco® equipment, delivers quality-of-service ( QoS )-enabled, managed wireless connectivity for its clients such as retail service providers and Internet service providers ( ISPs ). Through the deployment of Cisco Aironet® 1300 and Aironet 1400 series wireless bridges across the Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne metropolitan areas, Wizz can provide data rates of up to 100 megabits per second over the 802.11 standards-based wireless spectrum to sites that are out of reach of traditional optical or digital subscriber line ( DSL ) connections. The Cisco Aironet Family of wireless devices is designed to be fully compliant with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers ( IEEE ) 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g standards for wireless networking.

WiZZ Director Darrell Stapleton said; "Access to information is a fundamental aspect of business today. The WiZZ service enables service providers to give their business customers a cost-effective, fast, high-quality wireless offering that works for them, actively managing their network requirements."

Supported by Cisco 7200 Series routers, the Wizz network is cost-effective, designed for security, and QoS-enabled, meaning end users have the ability to prioritise data, voice and video, without compromising quality. This QoS feature enables WiZZ to offer its service providers customers advanced features such as e-learning and videoconferencing.

The network also allows retail service providers and their customers to reduce operational costs because the network is wireless-based.

Cisco Australia and New Zealand director of Service Provider Operations, Peter Papaioannou, said; "WiZZ offers a unique product whereby resellers and their business customers can benefit from high-speed data networking."
