Zebra Mobile Printers Key to New Traffic Citation Applications That Unlock Greater Efficiencies, Revenues for Law Enforcement Agencies

5 March 2006

Zebra Technologies (Nasdaq: ZBRA), a global leader in delivering on-demand specialty printing solutions for business and process improvement, reports its compact mobile and wireless printers are increasingly being incorporated into software solutions and electronic systems for law enforcement agencies by Zebra value-added resellers (VARs). Zebra's full line of mobile printers -- including the Zebra RW 420, QL Series and Cameo Series -- have proven to be rugged, reliable workhorses for the on-demand issuance of citations for traffic and parking violations, as well as accident report documentation.

Robert Danahy, director of global mobile and wireless technology for Zebra, explains:

"News of technology advancement spreads quickly in the law enforcement community. Early adopters of automated mobile systems and wireless computing platforms have reported significant benefits, from reduced staff time to better record-keeping to higher revenue from increased fine collections. Given the budget pressures on state and local governments to do more with less," he asked, "who wouldn't be eager to get behind a solution that actually helps their department collect money?"

Several examples of how law enforcement agencies are deploying mobile and wireless technology to transform traffic and parking citation transactions follow:

Florida Police Department Adopts an Advanced Wireless Platform

The Hollywood, Florida Police Department is migrating its traffic control and record-keeping processes to QuickTicket and Virtual Partner, a real-time mobile application suite developed by Advanced Public Safety, Inc. (APS) of Deerfield Beach, FL, a leading software firm specializing in public safety solutions.

"We look forward to the operational benefits the new system will provide for our department and traffic officers," said Capt. Joseph Healey in Hollywood PD's Support Services Division. "The applications, combined with Zebra's RW 420 mobile printer, will enhance efficiency, increase accuracy and eliminate the need for multiple data entry, allowing officers to upload their data wirelessly at the end of their shift into the main records database." City of Yonkers Deploys EZTag's Mobile Enforcement Solution for Parking Violations

Challenged by the unreliability and functional limitations of its existing electronic ticketing system, the City of Yonkers (NY) Parking Violations Bureau (PVB) turned to the EZTag Corporation of Plattsburg, NY, a leading provider of automated citation issuance and management solutions. As a result, the PVB was able to implement EZTag's Mobile Enforcement Solution (MES), which combines handheld mobile computers equipped with advanced imaging technology and Zebra QL 320 mobile printers.

The system enables completion and printing of a parking citation in 10 seconds or less, with relevant vehicle information scanned and populated into the appropriate application fields. The issuing officer only has to input the location information; the data is then transferred quickly and securely to the printer via Bluetooth wireless technology, and the ticket is printed. For the City of Yonkers, the MES has increased accuracy and drastically reduced its officers' time spent on paperwork, enabling them to focus on public safety.

EZTag's solution -- built around three fundamental elements of innovation, cost-effectiveness and reliability -- will improve user productivity, reduce operating expenses and increase operational efficiencies. EZTag's MES is also installed in various municipalities across the USA, including the Department of Public Works in Washington DC. City of Toronto Turns to Epic Data's TicketManager for Parking Enforcement

The City of Toronto, Ontario contracted with Epic Data International, a leading developer of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) solutions, to implement TicketManager, Epic Data's wireless parking enforcement solution. The system, which will serve Toronto's population of nearly 2.4 million and a workforce of about 300 parking enforcement officers, is comprised of the TicketManager software, rugged handheld computers and Zebra QL 320 mobile printers.

TicketManager is expected to increase the efficiency and productivity of its parking enforcement personnel, while improving worker safety, customer service and revenue collection. TicketManager is installed in four cities throughout North America and is used by several commercial, off-street parking organizations. For more information, visit http://www.epicdata.com .

"In today's world of competing budget priorities and belt-tightening policies, state, municipal and township law enforcement agencies are finding mobile and wireless technology to be a practical, cost-effective solution. Zebra is excited to be on the forefront of such advances in this technology, and to be able to work collaboratively with our channel partners and customers," concludes Danahy.
